Hi everyone! I am taking a second annual trip in December with my best friend! We are staying at the Pop Century with Deluxe Dining! We are going December 6-12th. I only have to pay for myself to go since well we are splitting everything down the middle.
Hotel, park passes, dining plan : $1074.65 - less deposit = 974.65 due by October 23rd. Flight: approx $350 we have no purchased them yet Spending: $200 Other: $100 (tipping, and other things that might come up) Total: $1624.65
Saved as of 7/2/10: $250 in disney gift cards $10 proctor and gamble visa g/c $ 20 in disney dollars $ 250 cash from yard sale Total = $530 / $1624.65 (leaving me a balance of $1094.65)
that doesn't include my change jar. The plan is to purchase at least a $100 disney gift card every other week.

I like the idea of purchasing the Disney Gift Cards. I may do that!

I like doing that only because there are only 3 possible places for me to spend the money. At the disney store, online or at WDW. AND you can pay for the trip with the gift cards so it makes it a great savings plan for those that have trouble saving money as I do.

Where do you usually purchase your cards?

I have been purchasing them online (disneystore.com) but I know a few people who buy them at the grocery store and put it towards the stores money off gas promotions. Which I might start to do. I just moved into my first apartment so I hadn't needed to do grocery shopping but I do now..
I like online because they have a wide variety of card designs but if you are just using them to save up and pay off your trip and dont care about the card design then the basic Mickey design is prob just fine

I've had a pretty slow day today not much going on (I'm a teacher so I'm on summer break till camp starts on the 12th) so I counted my change jar and checked my Disney Visa Card Reward Dollars. So to add to my $530 I have:
change jar- $90.88 DVCR$- $34.99
which brings me to $655.87/ 1624.65 (balance of = $ 968.78)

How widely accepted are Disney gift cards in the parks? I read the FAQ on them online and they just say at select locations.

I went in december and then again in May (as a chaperone for the senior class trip) gift cards are excepted every where they have a card reader.. the only other places besides that are if they are not disney owned for example the swan, the dolphin rainforest cafe etc... you can even use them as a way to pay off your trip either at check in at the hotel or online or over the phone as forms of payment. also if you plan to use your key to the world for charging purposes you can also set up the gift cards for that instead of a credit card just remember to keep a tally of what you spend.. upon check in just hand over what ever gift cards you want to put on your kttw it is added to your account and viola you have charging privileges with out racking up a credit card bill... and what ever is not used at the end of your trip is given back in cash..I generally will keep about $20 bucks for using at the airport if needed and the rest i will just go to the gift shop and buy a new gift card (starting increments is $25 bucks) and with that I am well on my way to saving for my next trip

Ah great to know that it's not as restrictive as they lead you to think it is. Maybe I'll have relatives give that instead of the misc crap they give my kids during bdays and holidays. Sure beats trying to sell yet another Zhu Zhu Pet on Craigslist.
