I stock up on meats like chicken, beef, and seafood when they go on sale and freeze them of course, but I try to stretch the amount of meats we get when I shop. I always trim the fat and stuff, package them into manageable portions in Ziploc bags before freezing so it's much easier to grab and thaw something without waste, but of late, I've been "doubling" the meats. Things like boneless skinless chicken breasts, and steaks, while trimming the fat and prepping, I butterfly the meat. I get twice as much out of my purchases, it reduces the amount of cook time (thus reducing energy use and cost to cook) and at the same time, we at less so it's less on our waistlines. Another thing I've done is cutting back on my dryer usage. Our electric company raised prices for the summer (though I doubt it'll stop after summer) so instead of relying on the dryer as much, I bought a drying rack (hanging a clothes line isn't feasible for us) and I dry as much of our clothes outside as possible. It cuts back on energy usage, it's greener, and the sun is my best stain removal tool. ;D

Be careful when you hang things outside. Make sure the clothes you hang are inside out because the sun will make your whites yellow and your blacks fade but, turning everything inside out will help.

Good ideas on meat! I just went to the local meat store. Hopefully, if you have one of those in your town you can get meat so much cheaper than at the regular grocery store. I got 3 lbs ground beef, 6 cube steaks, 6 center cut pork chops, and a pkg of country style ribs for $27. I love that store!!!

We stock up on meat when it is on sale too. We prep it as much as possible and then freeze it. Saves money and time as it makes for quick meal planning.
I would love a dryer rack but not sure what the wildlife in our area would do to the clothes.

I have consider hanging a clothes line..I just worry about stiff clothes. Not sure why, because my mom hung clothes alot when we were younger and I don't remember clothes being stiff.

We try and stock up on meat when it goes on sale too - but unfortunately don't have too much room in our freezer !!!
I also try to have something be the "main" thing of the meal instead of meat - such as more veggies, more grains, etc.

I hang a lot of my clothes. Actually most of them. I have a hanging clothes rack in my laundry room with hangers, I hang them on hangers right out of the wash. When they are dry they go right into the closest. I just iron them when I need them. It keeps the color and the don't shrink. My daughter has a lot of clothes from Abercrombie and Hollister and it just makes them last longer. Especially jeans, they still look great with minimum fading after a year.

we have slowly revamped our diet to include less meat as a main course and it has made a huge difference in our grocery budget. i can go to the local butcher and buy a ten pound bag of hamburger meat, sort it into 1lb bags and freeze them, and they last me a month or longer. now that I meal plan and use coupons, i spend less than $100 a week to feed my family of six, and we don't eat processed or junk food. I make most things, but not all, from scratch. the majority of the budget is fruits, veggies and whole grains. now when we do go out to eat, i don't feel guilty having a really nice steak, knowing that I rarely eat it anymore. try it out by having "meatless mondays", and after a month or two, pick another day to have a meatless meal. you will be amazed!

I spend about $70 week on family of 5 & dont buy processed either for the most part we also have atleast 1 meal a week w/ no meat I hang clothes to dry or just dry for 5 min then put everything on hangers & hang them on shower rods

When I dry my clothes outside I wash the white clothes last then throw the sun dried towels in with the wet wash cloths and socks which are too small to bother hanging outside and the towels aren't stiff. Since the towels are already dry the whites don't take as long to dry in the dryer.
