Hello! I'm headed to WDW by myself (yeah!) in October. I'm running the Wine & Dine half marathon and attending a conference for work. My family is going on a 4 night Disney cruise in March 2011. So my first mini goal is to save the rest of the money that I need for October ($627.76 for hotel, $60.00 conference registration fee, and $250.00 for food/misc.).
I'm saving money in a few different ways. This site inspired me to start couponing and CVSing more than I ever have. I used to spend $150.00/week on groceries and household goods per week for our family of four. Now, anything I save goes into the Disney fund. Last week I was able to save $60.00 - big improvement! We have been paying for summer daycare for our oldest and won't need to pay that after August 6th. We are used to spending that money each week and so now it will go into the Disney fund. That's $150.00 per week. We already set aside about $400/month for our fun savings and will continue to do that. I've started using my Disney Visa for everything I can in order to get the rewards dollars. (We are generally a cash family, so when I use the card the cash that I would have spent gets set aside so that I can pay the Visa bill each week.) Finally, found money and gift cards go into the fund. All in all I think I can get this paid for by February and that gives us a one month cushion in case we fall short.
savings as of 7/28
checking: $420.00 cash: $80.00 reward dollars: $55.00 gift cards: $25.00 total: $580.00

If you are going to a conference for work why are they not paying your conference fees and hotel? That's money that you are spending that could be put into your fund:)

I have to pay my conference expenses because I work for a university in a state that has not been sending our promised state funds. We also got to take several furlough days this year. I think we'll be asked to bring in our own toliet paper and office supplies pretty soon. So, there is no way my department can afford to pay for any conference expenses. To be fair, I am not at all required to go to the conference. I really wanted to go for the half marathon and figured if I was going to be there anyway, I might as well take advantage of a professional development opportunity.

I understand that! Sounds like me. I work in local government and so far we are not having to take any furlough but we are not getting a raise this year That is the main reason why I am couponing like I am and taking all of the savings for our Disney Fund.

Thanks for the support! I've been to WDW a few times by myself and it is a wonderful experience. I always miss my family, but it is nice to get away sometimes too.
I didn't spend any money on groceries last week because we were out of town. So, I got to add $150 to my fund. I also earned more Disney dollars and I got a refund check because I overpaid a medical bill.
checking $502.00 reward dollars $62.00 cash $260.00 gift cards $25.00 total $849.00
