As an annual passholder to DLR and a frequent trip taker, I have accumlated far to much information and advice for future trip takers. Here are a few tips and tricks that I use on every trip!
1. Bring your own food! Disneyland security will let food in as long as your not bringing in any kind of container (like peanut butter, mayo etc.) So my advice on saving money on food is to pack food before you go each morning. You can bring in soft sided lunch boxes, or leave a larger hard side in your vehicle.
2. On hot summer days, take advantage of the any shows indoors! Many of the greatest places to visit on hot days are in California Adventure, such as the Aladdin Show, the animation studios building, etc. There are so many great things you can do indoors, that will be fun for every age in your family!
3. A great place to relax in the park is the area beside the castle on main street. There is a stage there, where the do concerts, lots of tables & chairs and hardly anyone goes there. It is where my family eats our lunch every day. Its also at the entrance of the Sleeping Beauty tour, which is also a great experience people usually forget about!
4. Save your money and stay at an offsite hotel/motel. My family uses Priceline for our trips, and we always get a great hotel for less than $40 a night! If you are planning to walk or take a shuttle, go for a motel close to the park, but still far enough away that you'll get a great deal. Annual passholders usually get great rates at Howard Johnsons and they are close and really nice hotels.
5. If you can afford it, and plan on taking more than 2 trips in a year, look into annual passes. My family was paying separately for 3-4 trips a year, and the price difference made it so worth it to get annual passes. We have premium passes, so we get free parking, and get great discounts all over the park.
Those are my tips for now. I will post some more if I can think of any! Please feel free to post your tips and tricks in this thread too, I'd love to get some new ideas!
