My son and I have lived in a variety of settings, moving every few years. I try very hard to give him stability and look forward to buying a house of our own. I would like to start this savings as soon as I have my $1000 emergency fund in place... My goal is to save 25K-30K as a down payment so that I can avoid paying PMI. Right now, the additions to the fund will be small, but they will increase in size once I have a job in my field (after my retirement fund gets its deposit, of course! and $30 goes into my son's college fund monthly) I would love to reach this goal by December 2012. It will be a challenge but very worth it! <3 Starting balance: $0 on 8/16/10

just opened a new acct at Huntington Bank solely for house $$$... in 90 days, they will give me $100 for opening the acct and making 5 debit transactions in the next 2 months will use the debit card on gas and then just transfer the amt from my usual acct.. I couldn't pass up $100 bucks towards my goal!

My son wanted to stop at the local Italian festival.. I told him we could but that I did not want to spend more than 10 dollars on games, etc. Turns out that $5 bought a wristband and he could play on the blow up fun houses as much as he wanted. I am gonna deposit the other $5 I was willing to spend tonight into the house fund, bringing it to $310.

After checking out my cool savings tracker, Bobby announced that he wanted to give $20 of his birthday money to the house fund.. I told him he could keep it, but he insisted so another $20 toward our goal.
