Now that I have saved enough for my Disney trip, I have decided my next savings goal is $1,000 in an emergency fund for such things as unexpected car repairs, emergency medical bills and the like. Expected things like new tires, local taxes, etc. will be planned for and saved for separately. I would like to have this saved ASAP Starting amount on 8/14/10: $300

I hate when unexpected bills arise and I am stressed out so I thought this was worthwhile

crunched some numbers and can allocate another $200 to emergency savings right now... half way there! $500 saved, $500 to go! I am owed $300+ in wages this wk from my part time job so that will really help this add up fast!

I think that an emergency fund will be our next goal. My in-laws are struggling some terrible right now and it will be nice to have in case they may need help with food or medicine.

It really is a relief to know that money is allocated just in case you need it... makes for MUCH less stress..

woohoo! I am so excited... I am using this side job money as "found" money with the occasional splurge - taking my son to the movies, etc. It is really adding up fast!

Glad I saved... drove to my lady's house today - car was fine... 15 min later, it's totally dead. No click, no turning over, nada. Guessing this emergency fund is going to be depleted.

Yay! You did a great job saving for the fund... I say keep going, bigger emergencies could wipe it out and then some!

Molly - I hear you.. While I have $1000 earmarked as Do Not Touch money, I also usually keep a few extra hundred in that acct... I also have about 4K that's earmarked "house $" altho is accessible in an emergency. If it's even bigger, I have 20K+ accessible that's earmarked for retirement, but I do NOT want to touch that.

I hear everyone there. Each week I have scheduled $90 to go right from my paycheck to a bank that is about a 30 minute drive. I think I would have had about $240 in it. Plus with the change from using bills and from around the house. With an unplanned surgery and being out of work for 14 days I have had to use pretty much all of it. I still have another bank that I put $25 each month into. So there is about $100. I will pay back what I have removed once back to work. It is really hard to stay on track. I hope the best for you all. ;D

Peaches - Although it stinks that you had to use that emergency $$, that was exactly what it was for Instead of having to dig yourself into CC debt, you had cash available instead... great job!
