I am from Alberta Canada and I have 4 children 13,11,9,and 5, a husband too lol. We took our first family vacation in April 2009 and it was to Disneyland. I was hooked the moment i saw the Disneyland signs.
Well as soon as i heard that cars land was being built i promised the kids that we would go back.
Well money has been very tight but i decided it was time to start saving. We are either going in September/October 2012 or in 2013 sometime. I would really love to see it decorated for Halloween or for Christmas so dates could change.
Coming from Alberta Canada flights are crazy so we need to save a lot of money. I set a savings total of $7000. I know that seems like a lot but once you add everything it isn;t a lot. We will be trying for 7 nights and 8 days.
I just started living off of cash, use the envelope system, i use 5 envelopes, groceries, gas/vehicle,clothing and gift, entertainment and other. I try to keep running totals in gas/vehicle as throughout the year there is always something that it needs, but i think if there is a lot left over every month i will start taking a potion and putting in Disneyland. Same as clothing and gift with Christmas and school clothes.
I do use coupons when i can and i started shopping at safeway again to get air miles, i am hoping to save enough air miles for park hoppers for my family, and then that will bring the amount needed for trip way down.
So i started putting the extra money in a bucket for Disney and my total i have saved is $128/$7000
It is not much but it is a start.
