My husband and I are taking our son to Walt Disney World for his 2nd birthday. Growing up, my family went to disney world every year and I am a total disney fanatic. I have been dreaming about taking my own child to disney world since I was a child myself so I am beyond excited for this trip. We just booked it a few weeks ago to take advantage of the free dining. We will be staying at Coronado Springs for 6 nights and have a 6 day park ticket. I have been saving for the trip for 3 months now so I have $665 saved in my disney fund. Here is the breakdown of what we need.
Hotel, tickets, dining plan - $1647 Tips and extra food - $200 Plane Tickets - $400 (PAID!) Car Rental - $175 (Estimate based on the best price I can get currently) Souvenirs - $200
The total is $2,622 but we have already put down a $200 deposit and paid for our plane tickets so that leaves $2022 that I need to save. I have $665 saved so far. If anyone has any suggestions of things we should do with a 2 year old boy, I would love to hear them!

How exciting for you! I'm like you and went every year to WDW growing up and it was great to be able to take my kids! The look on their faces when they are little like your son is......it was so magical for me! Anyway, my suggestions are atleast one character breakfast or dinner if possible (as long as your son isn't scared of the characters!) and try for character meets so you can get pictures with the characters. One of my favorite things has been to compare the pictures over the years of my kids with the characters! If you and your husband want to ride on rides that your son is too young for, remember you can use Baby Swap so you can still experience your favorites even if they are not for little ones!

Way to go! You are making great progress! It will be so exciting to spend your son's birthday at the happiest place on earth! I'm jealous of your free dining trip! I'm kicking myself for not putting down a deposit for a reservation when the free dining window was still open! Ugh!

That is very exciting - your trip planned, your fund is growing, the little guy's birthday, etc.! I really like the personalized mouse ears that my friend told me about before the first visit our three older kids took to Disney back in 2006. It was a day trip to the Magic Kingdom and we found the shop over in Fantasyland, can't remember the shop, but a Cast Member used an old sewing machine to stitch their names on the back of the mouse ears. They still sit in their rooms as a cherished keepsake. I plan to do the same for my youngest (4th child) when we go on a family vacation to WDW in Sept 2011. We will be there Sept 17-24. I have some favorite pictures of my kids taken from the back of their heads while they are watching something of interest at the MK...and their name is right there to help identify them. )

I love the personalized mouse ears idea! We definitely have to do that. I made the personalized autograph book through Picaboo that Kristin posted the other day. It arrived today and I LOVE it! Such an amazing deal for $8! We also booked our plane tickets last night. The total was $430. It was a little over what we budgeted but since it is on Jet Blue we won't have to worry about paying for luggage. Today I added another $50 to the disney fund from rebates and survey's.
$795 saved and $1627 to go!

I just deposited $90 in the disney fund! We got a check from our mortgage company since we had too much money in our escrow account. Since it was unexpected I figure it goes in the fund:)
$1062 saved with $1360 left to go!

I had a great mail day today! I recently referred my pregnant friend to the cord blood bank that we use and apparently they have a referral credit. I just received a letter saying that I had $115 worth of credit! That is how much the annual storage fee is each year so this year it will be free. I figure that is money that goes in the disney fund since it would have come out of our budget! I also got a disney visa card offer for $200 with your first purchase. I have been trying to convince my husband to get a disney Visa so this came at a perfect time. That is $315 dollars for me to add to my fund!
$1377 saved with $1045 left to go!
